Media Release - 32 December 2011
PCB Spokesman Nadeem Sarwar while commenting on the statement of ICC's Chief Executive Mr. Haroon Lorgat in which he has stated that ICC has no part to play in selection of any team and it remains the absolute right of a member board to decide which player it wishes to include in any team for any match.
The Spokesman said that we also endorse the statement of ICC's Chief Executive that it is the authority of the individual cricket board of any country to decide the team of players and we never stated that ICC is involved in team selection. The factual position is that in pursuing its zero tolerance policy towards corruption, PCB as a precautionary measure approached ICC's anti corruption Unit regarding any such information on Wahab Riaz.
In the absence of any observation, PCB proceeded with selecting Wahab for the England series. PCB is already aware that it is ICC members' right to select its team and has never approached ICC on selection matter, however ICC's Anti corruption unit is established to facilitate members to deal with corruption issues and it is in this regards that ICC was contacted by PCB on Wahab Riaz.
Spokesmen further said that we would like ICC's Anti corruption unit to share any information on our players with PCB in order to jointly proceed in such matters. We hope we are able to establish that protocol in the future, while it is pertinent to mention that PCB has now established a vigilance division for this very purpose and we wish to emphasis that we shall deal with such issues with iron hand.
